Lighthouse Lodge
Successful Living Center for Children and their Mothers

You can be a hero. PAIN AND FEAR ARE ALMOST ALL THEY HAVE EVER KNOWN. Be that hero and help these woman and their children out of a spiral of addiction and of damaged lives with little hope.

These real people, (actual names), gave permission to tell their true stories.

Traci:
Her dad drank and beat his wife and kids. She started to drink and smoke pot at age 16. At 18 she moved on to pain pills and then heroin. The father of her child from a one night stand took no interest in, nor responsibility for the child. She has completed residential treatment and needs a place to live that is safe where she can be with her child. She wants to avoid going back to her former drug using boy friends.

Ebby:
She is the single mother of two small children. She has had domestic violence problems with the men in her life. She is completing residential treatment and is making good progress in her recovery. She doesn't know where she and her children can find a place to live that they can afford. She says, "I really want to stay clean and sober and show my kids there is a better way and we can have a good life. I am scared. I need to get more education and get a good job so I can be independent. I can't find a place to live. On minimum wage I can't afford one anyway."

There are dozens of families like these who are in desperate need. There is a solution and I invite you to join with me to make it happen.

I am Louise Knapp, president and founder of Lighthouse Lodge. "It is a 501 C-3 non-profit corporation.

LIGHTHOUSE LODGE SUCCESSFUL LIVING CENTER
Mission

To provide safe, affordable, sober living for young children and
Their single mothers who are recovering from drug and alcohol addiction.

To offer financial, physical, emotional, social and spiritual support as well as guidance on a path of success toward lasting recovery, health, and independence.

Vision:
To lead the safe, affordable housing revolution for families in recovery.
Many women do well in residential treatment, leave, re-unite with their children, hook up with a man, relapse and then have to go back to treatment. Often their failure is because they are homeless so they look for a man to help. Usually it is the man they used drugs and alcohol with before going to jail and treatment. They are desperate and don't know what else to do. Who will support them? How can they survive?

Lighthouse Lodge will offer:

  • a gated community for safety
  • 20 single unit apartments, with the chance to build 20 more
  • a work room where women can begin to support them-selves
  • an apartment for an on-site house mother/success coach
  • on-site day care center and programs for the children
  • lighthouse, seminar center, class rooms etc.

I am committed to the project and will be relentless in working until it's done. I have experience in the field of substance abuse treatment, education, and financial services. One of my strengths is to seek expert advice in areas where I am inexperienced or unqualified.

The professionals who work in the field of Substance Abuse in Utah County are excited to see this project and are very supportive. They see a huge need.

On the Board of Directors with me are Randy Lish, estate planning attorney, and Donald Hunter, retired counselor, business man, and hospital administrator. The Board of Advisors includes, Richard Nance, director of Substance Abuse for Utah County, Kim and Marcie Andrus, successful business owners and developers, Saria Karhunen, clinical therapist with Utah County Substance Abuse . There are other advisors serving who are qualified in many areas.

The Lighthouse Lodge project could be a huge addition to your giving legacy. If you choose to accept my invitation to be a major donor, I would be pleased to have your family name attached if you approve.

Imagine this big sign on the lighthouse or the lodge:

(Donor Name) LIGHTHOUSE LODGE SUCCESSFUL LIVING CENTER

Lighthouse Lodge will not incur debt. The entire project will be done one phase at a time. Money will be raised and placed in a secure interest bearing account until there is enough to complete one phase of the project. Then the next phase will be started. I am starting from scratch. I am just now beginning the fund raising adventure by contacting you and other such foundations. A Realtor is looking for land in south Utah County. An architect is preparing a preliminary sketch for the building complex.

I believe that there are philanthropists who are looking for a great cause to fund and will find Lighthouse Lodge Successful Living Center to be revolutionary, of great worth to children and their single mothers (a basic building block of society), and an exciting crusade with which to be affiliated. I invite you to be among them. Your contribution will be most helpful and appreciated.

Sincerely,
